Where to start
If you can’t read Hangul yet, start there. The alphabet deck has all 40 letters: 14 consonants, 5 double consonants and 21 vowels. Do the simple vowels first, then the consonants, and listen to each one as you go.
Once you can read most of the alphabet without checking, switch to the vocabulary flashcards. Each card shows a word in Hangul and you type how it’s said in English letters, so 안녕 is ‘annyeong’. Stuck? Press Space to see the answer and the meaning.
Your score only counts cards you got right first time. Anything you missed is listed at the end, so you know what to go over again.

Is it free?
Yes. Both decks are free and you can practise without an account. Signing in only adds the dictionary.
How long does it take to learn Hangul?
Most people can read Hangul slowly after a few days of short sessions. It was designed to be easy to learn, and the letters combine in predictable blocks. Reading quickly takes longer, which is where the word deck helps.
Which romanization do you use?
Revised Romanization, the official system in South Korea and the one on road signs. So 것 is geot and 있다 is itda. Spaces and hyphens are ignored when your answer is checked.
Where do the words come from?
The word deck is a list of common Korean words with English meanings. Each test picks words at random, so you see a different set every time.
How many words should I do a day?
Ten a day is a good place to start. Do the same ten again the next day if you missed a few, and move up to 20 or 40 when they feel easy.
